Christopher Balderstone

What is your role on the governing body?
I am the Director General’s Representative and member of the Personnel Committee 2010/11.

Tell us a bit about your background
I studied Law at Magdalen College, Oxford and Guildford College of Law and have worked as a solicitor in commercial property, a commercial lawyer in the leisure retail sector and also for the country’s biggest housebuilder managing a large team of lawyers, conveyancers and support staff through a period of swift organic and acquisition driven growth. I joined E-ACT in January 2009 and am the director of Legal Services and Company Secretary.

Why is being on the governing body important to you?
Having helped devise the governance structure for E-ACT, I worked to see its implementation and become involved in the reality of serving as an E-ACT governor.

What do you believe to be the key to success?
As a director and ambassador for E-ACT I believe that being better educated and highly skilled has a positive correlation with life chances and success.
I also believe drive and ambition are very important. With hard work and commitment you can often find yourself climbing the ladder and that is when new opportunities arise and you have a chance to shine.
