What is your role on the governing body?
I am a staff governor, elected by the staff to represent them on the governing body.
Tell us a bit about your background
I have been working as a teaching assistant at the Academy for 10 years now. I work closely with many of the most vulnerable students in the Academy, supporting their whole well-being as well as their academic progress. My aim is to help them achieve their targets and aspirations. I also plan and deliver a 6-week programme of Numeracy Recovery sessions for KS3 students which I really enjoy.
Prior to becoming a Teaching Assistant I was as a Civil Servant and worked for HM Customs and Excise for 21 years.
Why is being on the governing body important to you?
Over the years I have watched the staff all stand together as a team, face and overcome the challenges presented. I am committed to helping shape the future of the Academy and believe strongly that every single child matters and deserves nothing but the absolute best and equal opportunity to learn and achieve their aspirations. I also feel strongly that our students should feel safe and have a happy time here.
What do you believe to be the key to success?
Seeing the Academy emerge to what it is now over their challenging journey, I have seen how important it is to have strong leadership and sheer dedication. Through working together, success is achievable.
